Activision and Infinity Ward have revealed the first in-depth details of the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, the open-world extraction experience arriving with the new Call of Duty. In a persistent environment in the Hajin region, players will loot resources, complete orders, fight enemy forces and rival Operators, and try to extract rewards to expand their command center.

Forward Operating Base (FOB)

The FOB is the DMZ progression hub. As you complete operations in Hajin, it evolves from a foothold into a full base, with more than 12 stations.

Available from the start:

  • Operators: Operator status, Trait upgrades and active character selection;
  • Storage and Armory: holds extracted loot and sets the loadout before each incursion;
  • DMZ Orders: main missions that tell the story of the exclusion zone;
  • Shooting Range: weapon and sight testing with targets more than 100 meters away;
  • Survival Kits: themed resource packs.

Unlocked with progress: 3D Printer, Gunsmith, Vendor with daily stock, PvP Rewards Board, Boss Panel, Dog Tag Display, DMZ Progression and Deploy, the helicopter boarding that starts the incursion.

Progression in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ

DMZ has its own progression, from level 1 to 70. To level up faster, you need to balance three pillars – Combat, Looting and Objectives – and aim for Rank S in the After-Action Report at the end of each deployment. Activities include:

  • Loot and containers: armor plates, bandages and keys to secret rooms and underground entrances;
  • Dynamic and side operations: earn DMZ Cash, XP and Supply Drops, which become rarer with each consecutive success;
  • Hunting Lieutenants and Commanders: roaming bosses such as Colossus, Deathstalker and the North Korean Battle Tank, who drop valuable loot and Dog Tags that reveal their position on the map;
  • Threat Level: ranges from Low to Extreme. The more aggressive you are, the more heavy reinforcements the North Korean forces send.

Main points of interest in Hajin

Hajin has more than 60 named areas, split between North Korea (NK) and South Korea (SK). Some highlights:

  • Political Prison No. 14 (NK) – surrounded by a contaminated river, it houses the fortified complex “La Ciudadela”. Threat: Critical.
  • Chang-san Air Base (NK) – built beneath a granite hillside, with a tunnel bunker larger than the base. Threat: Extreme.
  • Haneul Nuclear Center (SK) – covered in radioactive steam; requires a gas mask. Threat: High.
  • The Grid (SK) – fortified commercial sector of Hajin City, with vertical combat between skyscrapers. Threat: Extreme.
  • NuriGO Shopping Center (SK) – underground network that requires night vision goggles. Threat: High.
  • Mirae General Hospital (SK) – close-quarters combat among triage camps. Threat: Low.

Vehicles

To cross Hajin, there will be ground vehicles (Camper, Sedan, Grizzly, the Aston Martin Dreadnought tactical SUV, Polaris Dagor A1, LTV with optional .50 turret, Cargo Truck and D50 Radar Flatbed with UAV), air and water vehicles (Light Helicopter, Heavy Helicopter and RHIB boats), plus automatic trains and monorail. Vehicles need fuel and repairs at gas stations.
