Some games win you over with a premise; Dumpster Gang wins you over with a raccoon. Curve Games and debut studio Coyote House Games announced that the co-op sandbox launches on December 3 on PC, via Steam and the Xbox app on PC, arriving day one on PC Game Pass. A free demo is already on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest, which runs until October 26.

Raccoon life

One to four players control a gang of raccoons that rummage through dumpsters, steal junk, raid pantries and commit what the studio calls “tiny crimes”. What stands out is that the mess has consequences: make too much noise and the Exterminator shows up to hunt the gang. He sets traps and captures anyone who slips up, and it is up to the rest of the gang to rescue them before they end up behind bars.

Co-op also comes down to weight: some objects only move when more than one raccoon carries them, and there are puzzles built for the group. You can play alone, but the game is clearly designed for chaos among friends.

What is in the demo

The demo includes the tutorial and the first two levels. According to Curve Games, you can already dig through trash, kidnap a chicken or two and even brew a surprisingly good coffee, because every late-night escapade needs caffeine.

A nice touch: the Steam page already lists Brazilian Portuguese subtitles among its languages. Pricing has not been announced.

Our take

Curve has a track record with silly physics co-op chaos such as Human: Fall Flat, and Dumpster Gang looks like the same recipe, now with a striped tail. A day-one PC Game Pass release helps a lot: this is the kind of game that works best when the whole group can try it at no extra cost.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
