Brazilian studio Kokku announced during GDC 2017 that it is the first Brazilian company to produce 3D content for a AAA PlayStation 4 game. Diorama, Kokku’s division specialized in 3D art, was responsible for creating content for Horizon Zero Dawn, with a team of 20 people over one year of work.
“Diorama was responsible for creating several characters central to the plot, such as the robots. Examples are the Corruptor and the Shell Walker, as well as all the mounts shown in Horizon Zero Dawn,” explains Thiago di Freitas, the studio’s executive director.
“We showed our work to Guerrilla Games, which in 2015 was looking for studios capable of working on Horizon Zero Dawn. We took on the challenge, went through a battery of tests and became one of the main suppliers on this big project,” said Freitas.
Examples of Kokku’s work are in the material released by Guerrilla Games itself to present the game at E3 2016. “Almost all the robots that appear in the E3 trailer were produced by us in Recife, including the big battle at the end,” Freitas comments.
“The completion of this project and the global launch of Horizon Zero Dawn is proof that the Brazilian market can meet the demands of major producers and international players,” the executive concludes.
