Listen up: Telltale Games released a new trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series in late March 2017, the episodic adventure with Marvel’s messiest team, and locked in the date for the first episode.

In the game, the one in control most of the time is Star-Lord, but the story revolves around the whole team: Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. It is the classic Telltale formula, with dialogue choices that shape the course of the story and action scenes in quick-time events. The developers moved away from the origin story and preferred to focus on the relationship among the five, a band of misfits that becomes a kind of family.

The starting point is an artifact of enormous power, the Eternity Forge, which falls into the Guardians’ hands after a scuffle with Thanos. Each has their own reasons for wanting the relic, and it also attracts the interest of Hala the Accuser, a Kree warrior who wants to use the artifact to bring back her extinct empire.

The first episode, “Tangled Up in Blue”, was set for April 18, 2017 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS and Android. In Europe, Telltale also announced a physical version for PS4 and Xbox One on May 5, with episode 1 and access to the season pass, in the same model as The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.

What came next

Episode 1 arrived on April 18, 2017, and the season’s five chapters came out between April and November 2017. Reception was mixed, but Scott Porter’s voice acting as Star-Lord was widely praised.
