EA employee says Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot of controller input lag

EA Motive animator Dan Lowe tested Red Dead Redemption 2's controller latency and found it far higher than Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Marvel's Spider-Man.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was released recently and is a phenomenon in both sales and reviews. But not everything is roses: several players complained that the character’s movements are slow and not very responsive. Plenty of doubts and controversy arose over this: some argued that the sluggishness was deliberate, to convey a sense of “realism” to the game, while others said it was caused by delays in controller response.

To settle (or not) this doubt, EA Motive animator Dan Lowe decided to test the game’s controller latency (response time). Lowe even presented a chart to show his results on the site Resetera, where he showed the results by comparing the game to other recent open-world releases.

After the comparison, Lowe stated that Red Dead Redemption 2 has an input lag (the delay in response between pressing a button and the corresponding movement being executed on screen) much greater than games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Marvel’s Spider-Man, two recent open-world games. He also made comparisons with Destiny 2 (in the tests the game was found to have an excellent response time) and Uncharted 2 (the game that came closest to having an input lag as heavy as Red Dead Redemption 2). Below is the video and the chart showing the tests:
