Come along, because this collaboration is a meeting of two worlds of monster hunters: on December 10, 2018, Capcom and CD Projekt announced that Geralt of Rivia, the witcher from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, would be a playable character in Monster Hunter: World.
Monster Hunter: World had come out on January 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on August 9 on PC. In its first year, the game received several guest appearances: Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, exclusive to PS4; Street Fighter’s Ryu and Sakura outfits; gear inspired by Dante from Devil May Cry; and even the Behemoth, a monster from Final Fantasy XIV.
With Geralt, the proposal was different and more ambitious: instead of just an armor set, a series of quests inspired by The Witcher, mixing the RPG feel of CD Projekt’s game with Monster Hunter’s hunting systems. Geralt would use his own fighting style, combining sword, combat magic and monster-hunting gear. A nice detail: Doug Cockle, Geralt’s English voice, would return to the role. And everything would arrive for free, as an update, first on PS4 and Xbox One in early 2019, with PC later.
