Back in the video rental days, unlocking extras in Resident Evil was for those who stayed up all night: finish the campaign, then the second run, polish your ranking and only then see Hunk or that famous block of tofu show up on the menu. In April 2019, Capcom offered a shortcut for those who did not have that time in the Resident Evil 2 remake, released in January of that year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The add-on is called All In-game Rewards Unlock and arrived on digital stores (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Steam, where it appears dated April 4, 2019). It unlocks right from the start everything that normally depended on the Records, the game’s internal objectives: the extra modes The 4th Survivor and The Tofu Survivor, the alternate costumes, the bonus infinite-ammo weapons, the 3D models and the concept art.

Those who lived through that era remember that these two extra modes come from the original Resident Evil 2, from 1998, and returned in the remake with new features. In The 4th Survivor, the player controls Hunk, an Umbrella mercenary, in a race from the sewers to the rescue helicopter outside the police station. The Tofu Survivor swaps Hunk for a block of tofu armed only with knives, and the remake also added other characters to this mode. In the game, each one requires completing earlier stages, which explains the interest of those who wanted to jump straight to the fun part.

It is worth remembering that the pack is optional: those who prefer to earn each reward the old way, playing and replaying, can still do so as usual.

What came next

The Resident Evil 2 remake received critical acclaim on PS4 and Xbox One and became the best-selling Resident Evil of all time, with more than 20 million copies as of September 2026. The game got PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions in June 2022, iPhone, iPad and Mac versions in December 2024, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for October 2026. The game also received the free mode The Ghost Survivors, with alternate stories in which secondary characters survive.
