Check out this last-minute swap. At the end of June 2019, Sony announced the July PlayStation Plus monthly games with Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo. But close to the release, PES 2019 left the list and Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition took its place, a bundle that also includes Heavy Rain, which had already been offered by the service before. On the official blog, Sony updated the announcement with the swap and an apology for the inconvenience, without explaining the reason.
The games were available to subscribers from July 2 to August 5, 2019. The final list ended up like this:
Detroit: Become Human: Digital Deluxe Edition
Heavy Rain
Horizon Chase Turbo
For those who don’t know: Detroit: Become Human is the Quantic Dream adventure directed by David Cage, released on PS4 on May 25, 2018. The story takes place in Detroit in 2038 and follows three androids: Kara, who escapes servitude to protect a child; Connor, a police investigator who hunts rogue androids; and Markus, who leads a liberation movement. Every choice changes the course of the plot, and the game is famous for that. Horizon Chase Turbo, meanwhile, is a source of national pride: made by Brazil’s Aquiris Game Studio, it is a 3D racing game inspired by 16-bit classics such as Top Gear and Out Run, with a soundtrack by composer Barry Leitch, the same one behind the original Top Gear from 1992. Up to four people can play in split screen.
What came next
Detroit came to PC on December 12, 2019, first on the Epic Games Store and then on Steam in 2020. It became Quantic Dream’s biggest hit, with 15 million units sold as of January 2026. Aquiris released Horizon Chase 2 in 2022 on Apple Arcade, with PC and Switch versions in 2023 and PlayStation and Xbox on May 30, 2024. It arrived in style.
