Check out this one from the archives: on September 4, 2019, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection for the Nintendo Switch. The package brought together two of the series’ best-loved chapters, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and on the day of the announcement it had no release date or images of the hybrid console version yet.
For those who love ships, cannons and boarding on the high seas, the duo was a feast. Black Flag, released in 2013, puts the player in the shoes of Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, in the Caribbean of the Golden Age of Piracy, between 1715 and 1722. Rogue, from 2014, flips the series’ logic: protagonist Shay Patrick Cormac is an Assassin who switches sides and starts hunting the Brotherhood itself in the service of the Templars, during the French and Indian War in North America. Many people at the time ranked the two among the best in the franchise before the RPG phase of Origins and Odyssey.
While the Switch images hadn’t appeared yet, here are the trailers of the original versions:
What came next
The collection arrived in December 2019. Besides the two games, the package included the extra Aveline mission, which used to be exclusive to the PlayStation versions. Result: Edward Kenway’s whole Caribbean and Shay’s North Atlantic to play on the TV or in handheld mode.
And Black Flag’s story did not stop there: in March 2026 Ubisoft confirmed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake with dynamic weather and new story content, which was released on 9 July 2026 for current consoles and PC. Time to set sail again.
