Heads up, Switch crowd: on November 30, 2020 Nintendo released system version 11.0.0, one of the most packed updates the Switch had received up to then. And for those in Brazil, there was a special gift in the package.
Screenshots and videos straight to your phone and PC
The novelty that drew the most attention was the new way to take captures off the console. From the Album, you could send images and videos to your smartphone wirelessly: the Switch shows a QR code on the screen, the phone scans it and that is it. The limit was up to 10 screenshots and 1 video at a time.
For those who prefer the PC, there was the option to copy captures over a USB cable, in System Settings, under data management. Detail: the connection had to be made directly to the console, not through the dock, and with a cable that transfers data.
The rest of the package
- Save cloud: those who use the same Nintendo account on more than one console can now automatically download saves stored in the cloud. The option has to be turned on in the settings, and the service requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
- Download priority: with several downloads running at once, you can choose which one downloads first.
- Trending: the user page gained a section that shows what friends have been playing.
- Nintendo Switch Online in the HOME Menu, with direct access to the service.
- Super Mario Bros. icons: 12 profile icons celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary.
- Names for saved button mappings.
Brazilian Portuguese, finally
And here it arrived with a bang: 11.0.0 added Brazilian Portuguese as a system language. With the region set to the Americas and the language set to Portuguese, the HOME Menu and some games began to appear in PT-BR. For those who had used the console in English or Spanish since its 2017 launch, it was a huge change.
What came next
The Switch kept receiving new features in the following years. One of the most requested arrived in version 13.0.0, in September 2021: support for Bluetooth headphones and speakers.
