The award-winning French independent studio DigixArt presented its latest game, ‘Road 96’, today during The Game Awards. DigixArt is led by Creative Director Yoan Fanise, an industry veteran and the creative mind behind titles such as Valiant Hearts and 11-11 Memories Retold. The title was announced as part of HP Inc.’s OMEN Presents initiative, as well as in collaboration with Google Stadia.
‘Road 96’ is a procedural narrative adventure in which you must escape a country on the brink of collapse and reach the border, thousands of kilometers away in the mountains. As you travel the country’s back roads during the hot summer of 1996, you will meet troubled citizens of the nation. Every decision you make will impact the whole journey to the border, which will be unique for each player since each playthrough will be procedurally generated.
“For our third game, we wanted to recapture the atmosphere of a road movie in a video game, a genre I particularly love. Our main focus was recreating the experience of random human encounters and designing an emotional journey that was special and suited everyone’s tastes. ‘Road 96’ is a tribute to travel films and series, to the films of Tarantino and the Coen brothers, and the game is full of 90s flavor. You will travel many times to discover the game’s secrets and reveal the true personalities of this nation’s inhabitants, their unique stories, hidden connections and perhaps change the country through the decisions you make.
You play as an emotionally broken teenager trying to win freedom and safety beyond the country’s border. As you get closer and the summer goes by, the plot intensifies, presenting deep moral dilemmas, dark and intense moments, many encounters, places, means of travel and crucial choices that can change your initial goal.
