Satya Nadella and Phil Spencer talk about the importance of games to Microsoft

Satya Nadella and Phil Spencer talk about the importance of games to Microsoft, months after the billion-dollar purchase of ZeniMax and Bethesda.

Microsoft is 100% committed to its gaming line. It sounds strange to say that, since a few months ago the company made a billion-dollar $7.5 billion purchase to acquire ZeniMax, but what many people don’t know is that the division went through a rough patch after the Xbox One reveal and its controversial policies. At the time, and even before, the Xbox division was not considered one of the company’s core businesses and was seen as something “secondary”, and its leaders were nowhere near as autonomous as other areas considered important to the company’s main business.

Fortunately that has changed: the company now sees the division as extremely important to its business strategy, and Phil Spencer reports directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella! And that has been the case for some years, which is why the division began to strengthen itself by buying several game development studios around the world. Game development takes 4-5 years on average, so we don’t see the results of these purchases yet, but believe me, they will come! Recently Phil Spencer, the top leader of the Xbox division, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about the importance of games to Microsoft as an organization. Check it out:

“As a company, Microsoft is all-in on gaming. We believe we can play a leadership role in democratizing games and defining that future of interactive entertainment, frankly, at scale. There are really three, I think, key areas where we believe we have an incredible competitive advantage. First is our leadership in cloud computing; second, the capabilities we have to build subscription value with Xbox Game Pass; and third is our overall focus on empowering creators. I am very excited about the opportunity to play.”

The interview goes on to talk about xCloud, games and the company’s position. Check out the full interview at the link below:
