PlayStation 5 has sold 10 million units

PlayStation 5 passes 10 million units sold worldwide as of July 18, 2021, Sony announces, thanking players for their support.

As announced today by Sony, the PlayStation 5 reached the mark of 10 million units sold worldwide on July 18.

In the statement, Sony thanked the support and efforts of its product development teams, hardware engineers and others, who managed to deliver the best possible PlayStation, becoming the fastest PlayStation to reach this sales number, despite difficulties such as the global pandemic and the supply problem of important materials for manufacturing the device.

For comparison with its direct competitor, the Xbox Series X|S, some games market analysts such as Daniel Ahmad estimate that Microsoft’s consoles sold 6.5 million by the end of June this year. Microsoft only discloses revenue related to Xbox, without reporting the number of units sold.

Sony also reported sales figures for some of its games:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold 6.5 million units.
  • MLB The Show 21 is the fastest-selling game in the franchise, with more than 2 million units across all platforms.
  • Returnal has sold more than 560,000 units since launch on April 30.
