A Brazilian edition of EVO is real, and news is coming soon.
Evolution Championship Series, or EVO for short, is the biggest fighting game tournament in the world.
It also holds the record for the esports tournament with the largest number of individual participants ever. I talk about that at the end of the article.
We already have the traditional EVO in the US, EVO Japan (since 2018), and we had EVO France in 2025 and 2026.
In 2024, they announced they would take EVO to Singapore, but only last month was it confirmed that the Singapore event will be held in January 2027.
At the start of 2026, the EVO team announced it would expand the brand again and take the tournament to other countries.
In 2027, we will have EVO in China, Morocco, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and BRAZIL.
An official profile on the social network X (Twitter) was created for Evo Brasil, and its first post was an image with a message telling us to keep an eye on 10/27/2026.
In the background, in the blue part of the image, is clearly a piece of the map of São Paulo, showing the area with the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the Mercadão Municipal, and the Anhembi district, with its exhibition pavilions and the Sambódromo.

A fun fact: we have already had EVO in Brazil, officially.
In 2008 and 2009, the Brazilian FGC contacted the EVO team and got permission to use the EVO name for a fighting game tournament held inside the Anime Friends event.
So for 2 years in a row, we had EVO South America inside Anime Friends.
But this time, it is more serious, with EVO Brasil bringing all the experience, know-how and vibe of the big EVO events held in the US, Japan and, more recently, France.
EVO is like the World Cup for fighting game fans, where the best companies in the field gather to show their news while the best players in the world show their skills with the pad/arcade controller/hitbox, etc….
EVO Brasil should, and deserves to, be an event that respects EVO’s traditional characteristics, living up to past tournaments.
The companies will surely bring builds of their games for the public to try, with content that has not been released or finished yet.
There may be closed, secret showings, displaying a video or even letting people play a game that has not been announced yet.
And we need to have new announcements here, of new characters and new season passes, just like at every EVO.
Official merchandise, bringing products from your favorite fighting game companies that would be very hard to find anywhere other than EVO.
As for EVO being the video game tournament with the most entrants, that happened in 2024, when 10,224 people signed up to compete in a game from that year’s lineup.
There are tournaments for other genres, such as MOBA or FPS, that have bigger prize pools or draw more views on their official broadcasts.
But in number of entrants, the current record belongs to EVO 2024, a tournament focused on fighting games, where matches are 1 vs 1.
