Tekken’s Harada names Call of Duty’s Captain Price as a character he would add

Tekken 7 producer Katsuhiro Harada says he would like to add Call of Duty’s Captain Price and Ash Williams to the Bandai Namco fighting series.

The seventh game in Bandai-Namco’s acclaimed fighting series Tekken is about to be released next June.
Born in arcades, the series rose to success on the first PlayStation, where Tekken 2 and 3 impressed everyone with their 3D movement and fantastic visuals for the time.

With more than 20 years on the market, the series has sold more than 44 million units across main games and spin-offs, and has produced animations and film versions. Now closer to the launch of Tekken 7, executive producer Katsuhiro Harada gave an interview to the site Red Bull in which he revealed some details about the new game and the series as a whole, along with some other curiosities.

Asked about the inclusion of Akuma, a Street Fighter character, in the game, Harada explained that the process of adding him to the game’s roster was far more complex than you might imagine:

“Seven years ago we started considering Akuma in Tekken, but it’s because the character really fits the game. Including Akuma was something the team, as a whole, thought about for a long time before actually doing it.
“We like to prepare ahead of time and think a lot about how to involve them in the game, so it’s not like ‘ok, Akuma is very popular, so let’s bring more Street Fighter characters’ or something like that. If we were to do another crossover we would need more time to think about how to add the character to the game. But we are very interested in knowing who fans would like to see in Tekken,” says Harada.

When asked which character from other games he would like to include in Tekken if he had the chance, Harada surprised by naming Captain Price from the Call of Duty series and Ash Williams from the Evil Dead films:

“Ah, I think Captain Price from Call of Duty, he’s been there from the beginning and it’s interesting to see his changes from then until now, going through World War II,” he says. “And also Ash Williams,” he adds, citing the protagonist of the film The Evil Dead.

Tekken 7 will be released on June 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and, for the first time, also on PC; check out the game’s official trailer:
