Listen up: EA Access subscribers will be able to jump into Star Wars Battlefront II on November 9, 2017, a week before the official launch, as already happens with EA games for the service’s subscribers. The game had just been revealed to the public on April 15, and EA was quick to tell those who want to get in first.
The EA Access setup, on Xbox One, was an early trial: limited play time before launch, with progress carried over to the full version if you buy. On PC, the same applied to Origin Access. Those on PS4 were left out, since EA’s service did not yet exist on Sony’s console.
There is another way to get ahead: anyone who buys the Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition can play from November 14, three days before the game reaches stores on November 17, on all platforms.
EA’s promise was a robust campaign and frantic multiplayer. The story spans about 30 years and brings together iconic characters from the saga, with betrayal and redemption in the mix, while multiplayer keeps the massive battles and space fights that fans of the first game already knew. More details were left for EA Play, in June, ahead of E3.
What came next
The EA Access trial was 10 hours, unlocked on November 9, and it was precisely in that window that the loot box controversy exploded: progression depended on crates that could also be bought with money, and EA’s reply on Reddit became the most downvoted comment in the site’s history. On the eve of launch, on November 16, microtransactions were turned off. The campaign, starring Iden Versio, commander of the Empire’s Inferno Squad, came out with the game on November 17, and progression was reworked in March 2018. Support continued until April 2020, and the game surged again in 2025, with its arrival on Xbox Game Pass.
