In May 2017, Gazillion Entertainment announced the date of Marvel Heroes Omega on Xbox One: June 20. Free to play, the title is the console version of Marvel Heroes, an online action RPG that had existed on PC since June 4, 2013. On PS4, the game could already be tried in an open beta.
According to Xbox, the debut would have 38 playable heroes, from various Marvel teams and franchises, with more characters promised after launch. The gameplay is very reminiscent of Diablo III: top-down view and combat against hordes of enemies. What stands out is the mix that Gazillion itself described as non-stop action with the long progression of an MMO. Chief designer Ben Gilbert put it this way: Xbox One players would get to know the game “with its unique blend of non-stop action and MMO progression features”.
A nice detail for those who like to play the same character for a long time: after level 60, the game opened a series of endgame activities, such as Trials, legendary items, the Danger Room for playing with friends, the Infinity System and Hero Synergies. The game’s original story was written by Brian Michael Bendis, a well-known name in Marvel comics.
What came next
The date changed: the Xbox One launch moved to June 30, 2017. The game’s life, however, was short. On November 15, 2017, Disney ended its partnership with Gazillion, and on November 27 the game and its website went offline, along with the shutdown of Gazillion. A sad ending for a game with a huge cast of Marvel heroes and villains.
