Activision and Bungie partnership ends, but Bungie keeps the Destiny franchise rights

The Activision and Bungie partnership ends, and the Destiny franchise rights stay with Bungie. Here is what changes for the game.

The partnership between Bungie and Activision is about to end, and with it Destiny will be fully under Bungie’s control. News of the split came this afternoon at a team meeting, according to Kotaku; after the news there was applause from employees, who even opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

“We enjoyed a successful eight-year run and would like to thank Activision for its partnership on Destiny”.

“Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that Activision will transfer the Destiny publishing rights to Bungie. With our remarkable Destiny community, we are ready to publish on our own, while Activision will increase its focus on intellectual property projects. ”

Destiny was released in 2014 and, by contract, Bungie was required to release a new game or expansion every fall. Now, with the end of this partnership, Bungie is free to create its own release schedule without interference. The company highlighted:

“We will continue to deliver the existing Destiny roadmap and look forward to releasing more seasonal experiences in the coming months, as well as surprising our community with some exciting announcements about what lies beyond.”

Let’s eagerly await more news from Bungie, now unshackled!
