The facts: in February 2019, while promoting the launch of Yakuza Kiwami on PC on Twitter, Sega was asked by a fan about an Xbox version. The answer was direct: “unfortunately there are no plans for Xbox platforms”.

The request made sense. The Yakuza series, from the studio Ryu Ga Gotoku, was born and grew up on PlayStation platforms, but had been opening up gradually: Yakuza 0 had already come to PC, Yakuza Kiwami came out on Steam on February 19, 2019, and Sega had also released the Yakuza 1&2 HD collection on Wii U. For fans, the natural next step would be the Xbox One. Kiwami, worth remembering, is the remake of the first Yakuza, originally released in Japan in January 2016 and in the West in August 2017, on PS4.

In practice, the 2019 answer only meant that nothing was planned at that moment, not a door closed forever. It is a subtle difference, but it mattered a lot for what happened next.

What came next

A year later, the answer was different. Yakuza 0 reached Xbox One on February 26, 2020 and Yakuza Kiwami followed on April 21, 2020. Kiwami kept traveling: it reached Nintendo Switch on October 24, 2024, Switch 2 on November 13, 2025 and PS5, Xbox Series and PC on December 8, 2025. Kiwami’s Metacritic average is 80, and its Switch sales far exceeded Sega’s own expectations. The numbers show that “no plans” has an expiration date.

Hardware, PC and performance

Doutor Overclock claims a PhD in thermal dissipation; the diploma, curiously, has never left the lab. He covers hardware, PC requirements, performance patches and upscalers, and turns spec sheets into plain English. He apologizes in advance for the dry joke in the third paragraph.
