Activision says Destiny was not financially attractive

Activision executives said the split from Bungie was good for both and that Destiny was not meeting financial expectations; next Call of Duty has a campaign.

Activision’s most recent financial results were presented and some analysts asked about the end of the partnership between Bungie, the developer of Destiny, and Activision… the executives said the split was a good thing for both companies and that both will gain from it; one of the executives added:

“Bungie can focus on the intellectual property it created and we can focus on our biggest opportunities and our biggest franchises with our best resources.”

After reminding that Destiny did not belong to Activision, he continued:

“Controlling the property gives us the opportunity to pursue new experiences and interaction models, something that also presents itself as new revenue sources, and consequently structurally higher margins.”

“Destiny was highly acclaimed by critics and has high-quality content, but it was not meeting our financial expectations,”

He ends by saying Destiny would not help the company generate greater profit in 2019 and that with this split they will allocate the resources that previously belonged to Bungie to other projects and teams. It was also confirmed that the next Call of Duty will have a campaign.
