Michael Pachter says the Anthem demo hurt the game’s sales

Analyst Michael Pachter said early PC reviews hurt Anthem’s launch sales, arguing the game should be seen as a console game.

Anthem was released recently (on the 22nd) and has been getting a rain of criticism from players… one of the first complaints is the downgrade it suffered, since the game showed visuals far superior to the final product when presented at E3, and as if that were not enough there were also several rumors about microtransactions tied to new types of Javelins (the armor we wear in the game), granting advantages to those who could pay for them. This greatly hurt the game’s performance, so that at launch it did not even reach half the physical units sold by the studio’s previous game, the controversial Mass Effect Andromeda.

Michael Pachter, a well-known games market analyst, gave his opinion on what happened; according to him it was a mistake to let reviews of the PC version of the game come out so early, because the game should be seen as a “console game” and not a PC game. He explained:

“My personal perspective is that this is not just a PC game – you can fly in the game and control your flying character like driving a car; the controls do not work as well for that on PC and they work perfectly on consoles.”

He believes that console players’ reviews will be more positive because of this, but believes that at this stage they will also be influenced by the recent criticism.
