Come along and peek behind the scenes, because this video is a treat for fans: Capcom started 2019 strong, delivering the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake in January and Devil May Cry 5 on March 8, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. On March 15, a week after launch, the company published a special video about the team’s philosophy and how it shaped the game’s design. Take a look:
In the video, Hideaki Itsuno, who has directed the series since Devil May Cry 2, talks about the principles that guided the team, and Yoichiro Ikeda, the main person responsible for design, tells how they wanted to create something new and dynamic. It is a conversation full of curiosities told by the people who made the game.
And what a story lies behind it, you know? Itsuno was already talking in 2013 about the wish to make a fifth game, and it was even thought the series might go on pause. He wanted this to be the best work of his career. The more realistic look came from the RE Engine, the same engine as Resident Evil 7. The story brings back Nero and Dante, hired by a mysterious stranger called V to stop the Demon King Urizen, and each of the three plays differently, which leaves my little gamer heart torn when choosing a favorite.
What came next
Devil May Cry 5 sold more than two million units in less than two weeks and won several awards. In November 2020 the Special Edition arrived, at the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Vergil playable. On June 23, 2026 the Devil Hunter Edition came out for Nintendo Switch 2, and by June 2026 the game had totaled 14.24 million units, the best-selling in the series.
