During The Game Awards on December 10, 2020, Mediatonic showed the trailer for Season 3 of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, scheduled for December 15 on PC and PlayStation 4. The theme, hinted at weeks earlier, was winter: snow, ice and costumes to face the cold, in a year-end mood.

The reveal had a curious path. At the end of November, Mediatonic split the season’s promotional image into 300 pieces and handed each one to a fan on Twitter and Discord, letting the community put the puzzle together. That is how the winter theme was confirmed. A few days before the event, the studio also introduced Bert, the penguin from one of the new rounds.

The season, called Winter Knockout, arrived as the game’s biggest update so far. There were seven new rounds:

  • Ski Fall: solo run down the icy slope, passing through rings to rack up points;
  • Tundra Run: obstacle course with boxing gloves, spinning platforms and a strong fan;
  • Freezy Peak: spiral climb under a rain of snowballs;
  • Snowy Scrap: three teams push snowballs that grow along the way;
  • Pegwin Pursuit: teams compete for the arena’s penguins, and whoever holds one scores points;
  • Thin Ice: final round on ice plates that crack with every step;
  • Roll Off: final round inspired by Roll Out, with the goo rising.

Besides the rounds, the season brought winter costumes, in-game music in Christmas versions, an in-game news board, rewards for those who linked their account to Prime Gaming and the Crown Ranks system, which turns every crown won into progress toward exclusive rewards, such as colors, patterns and golden versions of well-known costumes. Crowns won before the season also counted.

What came next

Season 3 was the last major chapter of the game’s debut year, launched in August 2020. In March 2021, Epic Games bought Mediatonic. On June 21, 2022, Fall Guys became free-to-play and arrived on Switch, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play between all platforms. In the new phase, the season count started over from zero.
