Moon Studios, the team behind Ori and the Blind Forest, has released a new episode of its behind-the-scenes series Wicked Inside, detailing what changes in No Rest for the Wicked on the way to version 1.0 on PC and PlayStation 5. The soulslike action RPG has passed 2 million players in early access.

Classes instead of attributes

The attribute system, which pushed each character into a fixed playstyle, has been retired. Now the equipped weapon sets the class: there are 24 in total, and traits can be carried from one class to another. In build-engineering terms, a rigid tree becomes a modular system. Approved.

Factions and Cerim Cores

Players start as a recruit in one of Isola Sacra’s 6 factions, such as the Severed Hand assassins, the Sacrament Guard knights and the Unspoken, and climb the ranks. Cerim Cores handle survival, from simple boosts to health, stamina and focus to more exotic effects.

What 1.0 brings

According to the studio, 1.0 nearly doubles the size of the game, with new zones, enemy factions and bosses, loot and combat improvements, quality-of-life tweaks and dedicated performance work on PS5. No date has been announced yet.

Our take

Promising PS5 optimization in writing takes nerve. If Moon delivers twice the content running smoothly, 1.0 is worth the reinstall.

Doutor Overclock claims a PhD in thermal dissipation; the diploma, curiously, has never left the lab. He covers hardware, PC requirements, performance patches and upscalers, and turns spec sheets into plain English. He apologizes in advance for the dry joke in the third paragraph.
