Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix with all 10 episodes; Cyberpunk 2077 gets Update 2.5 on October 22

Heads up, choom: Night City is back. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the new anime series from CD PROJEKT RED and Japanese studio TRIGGER, premiered on Netflix on Tuesday, October 20, with all ten episodes out at once. And that’s not all: Cyberpunk 2077 gets a free update inspired by the anime on October 22.

A new story in Night City

The new season arrives four years after the first Edgerunners and stands on its own: the cast is entirely new, each character with their own fears and ambitions. The plot weaves together the stories of a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner, in a tale of vengeance and redemption, according to CD PROJEKT RED.

It is directed by Kai Ikarashi, with Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer. Masahiko Otsuka returns to the project, and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor serves as showrunner, story writer and producer.

Where to watch

Both seasons stream exclusively on Netflix. In Brazil the series is listed as Cyberpunk: Mercenários, rated 16+, and Netflix’s Brazilian page lists Portuguese and original Japanese audio plus Portuguese subtitles.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5

On the day of the premiere, CD PROJEKT RED also announced the Edgerunners 2 Update, Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077. It is free and arrives on October 22 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with new items and features, including content inspired by the anime. The Nintendo Switch 2 version follows shortly after, with no date yet.

The details come on Wednesday, October 21, in a special REDstreams episode broadcast on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, and the official patch notes go up the same day. For fans of the game, it’s a chance to head back to Night City with the anime fresh in mind.
