Nintendo released on January 31, 2018 a new trailer for the Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 version for Nintendo Switch, calmly showing what players would find in this edition.
The first point is touch control. Besides the classic scheme, the Switch offered the option to control Bayonetta through the touch screen, tapping to move, attack and dodge. It is an alternative designed for those with less experience with action games, and works best in handheld mode.
The second point is amiibo. By scanning a compatible figure, the player unlocked Nintendo-themed outfits and weapons in Bayonetta 2, a tradition that came from the Wii U version.
The third is Tag Climax, the two-player cooperative mode. On the Wii U it was online only; on the Switch, it also works locally, with two consoles connected wirelessly.

It is worth recalling the series’ history. Bayonetta 2 is by PlatinumGames, directed by Yusuke Hashimoto, and originally came out in 2014 for Wii U. The game only existed because Nintendo took over publishing after Sega gave up on funding the sequel. On the Switch, Bayonetta 2 came together with the first Bayonetta, which could also be bought separately, and both arrived together on February 16, 2018.
What came next
The Switch version was very well received, with a 92 on Metacritic, and in its first nine weeks it outsold the original Wii U release (400 thousand copies against 300 thousand), reaching 1.23 million copies by December 2022. The series continued on the console with Bayonetta 3, released on October 28, 2022. For anyone who likes well-built combat, it remains one of the best entry points into the genre.
