On August 10, 2021, Bandai Namco announced that Tales of Arise would get a free demo on August 18, about a month before launch. The announcement was made by the series’ official social media account.

The demo was announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. PC was left off the list, so those planning to play on a computer would have to wait for launch to try the game.
Tales of Arise is the 17th main game in the Tales series and was conceived as a fresh start for the franchise, with a team mixing veterans and newcomers. The story takes place between two worlds: Dahna, medieval-looking, and Rena, far more advanced. Three centuries ago, the Renans conquered Dahna and enslaved its people. The protagonist is a slave with no memory, known as the “Iron Mask”, who helps rescue Shionne, a captive young Renan woman, and joins her to free the five regions controlled by the lords of Rena.
The game was made in Unreal Engine 4, with Minoru Iwamoto as character designer and art director. It was originally planned for 2020, but was delayed to September 2021 due to internal quality concerns and to reach more platforms. At the time of the demo, the set date was September 10, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It was also the first game in the series with a simultaneous worldwide release.
