The standard PlayStation 6 will have a memory difference of less than 30% from its handheld sibling that some rumors point to.
Insider leaker Moore’s Law is Dead commented that Sony’s next PlayStation generation will come with the PlayStation 6 as its flagship, but will also have a handheld device capable of running PS5 and PS6 games.
On the Broken Silicon podcast, the leaker talked about the amount of RAM the devices will have.
Based on the data he got, the “base” PS6 will have 30GB of RAM, and the handheld will have 24GB, with the difference being less than 30% between the devices.
He said that, because of this, the chances of the handheld being an anchor for the main PS6 are quite small.
The leaker speculates that the difference in games between the PlayStation 6 and the handheld version may be just the game’s overall resolution and the texture resolution.
For comparison, the differences between Microsoft’s Series S and Series X are 60% in VRAM, the video memory.
Keep in mind that all of this is still a rumor, since Sony has not yet officially announced the PlayStation 6 specifications, and has never commented on this so-called handheld version of the PS6.
