Dead or Alive 6 runs at 1080p on PS4 Pro and reaches 4K with HDR only on Xbox One X

Koei Tecmo confirmed in 2019 that Dead or Alive 6 runs at 1080p on PS4 Pro and reaches 4K with HDR only on Xbox One X, without a stable 60 fps.

Before stepping into the ring, it is always worth knowing what ground you are standing on. In February 2019, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja told the site Wccftech how Dead or Alive 6 would behave on that generation’s most powerful consoles, and the answer showed a clear difference between the two machines.

On PS4 Pro, the game would run at 1080p and 60 frames per second, using the extra power to improve scenery and effects, without raising the resolution. On Xbox One X, the resolution could reach native 4K, but without guaranteeing a stable 60 frames; those who preferred could choose a mode that prioritized performance and kept 60 frames. Koei Tecmo also confirmed that the Xbox One X would be the only platform with HDR, a feature that would be left out of the PS4 Pro version.

In a fighting game, this choice has weight. A steady sixty frames is the foundation of the genre: it is how players count the frames of each move and fit blocks and counters in at the right time. That is why the Xbox One X performance mode was the most sensible for anyone playing seriously, with 4K left as an option to enjoy the scenery.

The announcement came shortly before launch. Dead or Alive 6 was scheduled for February 15, but Koei Tecmo asked for a few more weeks and delayed the release to March 1, 2019, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

What came next

The game came out on March 1 to a mixed reception: 76 on Metacritic on Xbox One, 72 on PS4 and 73 on PC. Critics praised the gameplay, the stages and the beginner tutorials, but complained about the lack of online lobbies at launch. On March 15 the free Core Fighters version arrived, with over 8 million downloads. The first season brought Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, from The King of Fighters. On June 25, 2026, Koei Tecmo released Dead or Alive 6 Last Round for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. Patience, the road of a fighting series is long.
